Esther wrote to say,

‘Hello and happy New Year. Pass my warm regards to MCT brethren and the church.
On behalf of the Ecumenical Day Care and Support Women Project, we sincerely want to thank all of you for your great and continuous support in the year 2009. We have continued to trust in the Lord and He has been very faithful.

‘We had great Christmas celebrations with the ladies and children.   We managed to give school bags to 130 kids besides organizing a party for them. We also gave Christmas food packs for 150 families. We really thank God for the year.  It was a great year.

‘We are beginning this year with blessings. We are  now very busy doing school uniforms as  the schools have just opened; four ladies have been doing the uniforms,  four  men have been doing shoes,  fifteen ladies have been doing the beads  and belts and four  ladies have been doing sales in the market. This is a huge team to supervise but the grace of the Lord has been sufficient. I trust that all these families will continue to enjoy working with us this year and that God will give us huge orders and good health so that we can keep working ‘

From Shirley Brown:

At Esther’s church they held a service for World AIDS Day. About 350 people attended, arriving from 8.00am and they worshipped until 2.30pm.  She was pleased to say that during the service, ‘people living with HIV testified to the goodness of the Lord and a great multitude came to the front for prayers’. This is a great breakthrough as many of these people have been stigmatised and discriminated against – even from the faith communities. It must have been a wonderful day as it finished with everyone sitting in the sun enjoying the picnic that had been provided.

It is encouraging to receive the regular updates from Esther and to know of the ways that she is able to maximise the support that we give to the project.

MCT are planning to visit the project in October. The visit will include spending time with Esther in Ngong Town, meeting the women and families within their home communities, seeing the bead work - and some time for cultural activities eg Nairobi National Park.  If you would like to join  us on this exposure visit (up to six people) for one week,  please contact the manse  for more information before 28 February. I am sure that you would find it an unforgettable experience
